The prelims practical was BADD. I hadn't been diligent enough. It's my own doing! I guess I got tired of the pieces. The Mozart was alright, the rest were in shambles. The central section of the Villa-lobos, as well as life in the Bach. I hate inconsistency, but that's no reason for me to pretend it isn't there. If it's inconsistent it only means that I need more practice.
Because diligence = win.
I am currently adhering to my previous plan of Bach inventions: achieve perfect tone, perfect structure. I honestly think classical music can make one wonky sometimes, because there's only one vision of perfection, and on good days you think you've got it, on bad days you think you can never come close. It's all in the head.
Post-Bach inventions/sinfonias I am going to start on Scarlatti and Beethoven sonatas. Scarlatti for the clean fingers, Beethoven for structure and expression. I just read through a bit of the Chopin G minor ballade today, and I'm entirely mesmerized. I can't start on it anytime soon though, lest I wreck the piece with my amateur technique and understanding.
HANON + SCALES FTW.
